She was an English novelist best known for her six great novels, which interpret, criticize and comment on the landing of British nobility at the end of the 18th century. Austen’s storylines often explore women’s dependence on marriage in the pursuit of favorable social status and economic security.

Jane Austen may have been born in the 18th century, but that hasn’t stopped her from making her mark in literature. She has brought us iconic literary works such as Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense and Sensibility and Mansfield Park into our lives, but her personal life has also caused a stir. During her life, Jane Austen never married. It was unheard of at that time, but it seemed like no man could live up to her ideals of love. Instead of marrying the wrong man, she decided to stay single.
