How Many Social Events Am I Required To Attend?
“Unrealistic expectations of social events are one thing me and my wife argue about. She has a best friend who has 3 kids, we get invited to all 5 of those people’s birthdays along with her best friend’s sister’s birthday, and their parents’ birthdays and aunts and uncles.
This comes to something like going out each month. I show up but don’t really interact. Then get asked why I don’t get in the middle of things, to me these people are acquaintances and nothing more. I haven’t known them my entire life, so it’s hard to get excited about seeing people I don’t have much in common with.”
