Before the Statute of Secrecy was enforced in 1692, the Malfoy family was very active within the society of rich Muggles.
They ran in the same social circles and enjoyed the luxuries of the time, even though it is quite contradictory to the ideology of Lucius Malfoy that we have come to know.
An ancestor of Lucuis Malfoy even tried to court Elizabeth I so that he could rule over the Muggles.
