Disturbing Treatment
It looks like a scene out of The Blair Witch Project, doesn’t it? In this 1890 photo, you see a woman forced into a crucifixion pose and facing a wall.
This woman is a mental patient in an asylum. Forced standing was legal treatment for mental illness in 19th century Germany.
