American Beauty (1999)
“American Beauty” was one of those films that made people think about life and all its idiosyncrasies. Of course a lot of it was also kind of disturbing, considering that the lead character played by Kevin Spacey, happened to have a crush on his teenage daughter’s cheerleader friend, played by actress Mena Suvari. During a school performance, he becomes transfixed on her, believing that she’s dancing for him as a spotlight shines on her and everyone else gets washed away in the background.
As Mena unzips her sweater and begins taking it off, people think she’s going to actually show her breasts, but instead, a bunch of rose petals begins ascending into the air. Still, it doesn’t stop everyone from pausing that exact moment, wishing that they could get a glimpse of something else completely.
