The Macallan 1926 whisky matured for 60 years in Sherry casks and was released in 1986 for $27,600. Of these bottles, a few were set aside for artists to paint, twelve of which were hand-painted by British pop artist Peter Blake and one by Irish artist Michael Dillon. While many of the bottles have sold for very large sums of money at auction, the Michael Dillon bottle is the record-breaker. At an auction at Christie’s in London the bottle sold for a staggering $1.52 million including buyer’s premium.
