“Women don’t leave the kitchen!” – Hardee’s
This ad is extremely obnoxious and sexist. It says that the American fast-food chain is only for bachelors who are not hitched to anyone and do not have a wife waiting for them at home. It patronizingly asserts in their ad that a woman’s place is at home, confined to the kitchen to cook their man delicious meals.
In the poster, the wife stares out the window like she couldn’t even step outside the house to accompany her daughter to the park or to school. Then there’s the mandatory apron and pointed-toe heeled pumps. Those shoes aren’t exactly the most comfortable things to wear if you’re spending hours on your feet. Let’s also not ignore the phrase, “little miss waiting on you” since it manages to stress how small and subservient a wife should be in five simple words.
The ad wishes to say that if the man is yet to find a servant who will cook for him at home, he can always head over to Hardee’s and have something sloppy and hastily prepared. It is funny that they consider their work to be sloppy and hasty when they should have been advertising the thought that goes into preparing the food for their customers.
