Shakira was born in Colombia, and she’s been called the “Queen of Latin Music.” She learned belly dancing from her paternal grandmother, who, like her paternal grandfather, was born in Lebanon and moved to New York City. During Shakira’s performance at the 2020 Super Bowl, she looked into the camera, opened her mouth, and let out a ululation with very noticeable tongue action. Many viewers were puzzled, but those of Arabic heritage recognized that Shakira was attempting a zaghroota.
