The American actor gathered a lot of appreciation for his portrayal of Leo McGarry in The West Wing. His performance earned him a Primetime Emmy in 2002. John struggled with his addiction to alcohol but sadly, even though he committed to healthier living, he passed away on December 16, 2005 at 58 from a heart attack.
