Susan was an American social reformer and women’s rights activist who played a central role in the women’s suffrage movement. Born into a Quaker family committed to social equality, she collected anti-slavery petitions at the age of 17.

As one of the most famous feminists in history, it’s no surprise to learn that the woman you see on your dollar coin was unmarried. The social reformer and women’s rights activist was a major figure in the suffrage movement, and it seemed she didn’t have time for patriarchy. In fact, she spent her life reclaiming a world where men did not have the power in matters of marriage. She wanted this union to be an egalitarian union in which both were happy and satisfied.
